The System Basketball Federation announced that the International Federation had agreed to grant it the right to host the Asian qualifiers for the Paris Olympics.
The federation said in a post on Facebook that this is the first time that Syria has hosted the qualifiers since the outbreak of the revolution 12 years ago.
According to Al-Ittihad, the regime team came in the second group, along with Saudi Arabia, Kazakhstan, Indonesia and India.
In turn, the head of the regime’s basketball federation, Tarif Qutrash, said, “Hosting for the first time Olympic qualifiers following a long break from foreign participation is very important, and that the qualifiers will be held in Damascus at the request of the AFC for airports.
The news received an interaction among the ranks of the sports street, and many mocked the ability of the Syrian regime to hold such an event, on the page of the “Basketball Sports Federation” affiliated with the regime.
One of the commentators said, “Where do they want to play without it, this shyness withdrew,” and another commented, “Why does such a job come out with you? You are the league, Dope, you are controlling,” while one of them expressed his shock at the news, saying, “You guys translate… Why do we have halls?”
These qualifiers are scheduled to be held from 12 to 20 August.
