The Damascus branch of the Syrian Artists Syndicate mourned, on Wednesday, the able artist, Antoinette Najib, at the age of 92.
The union branch stated on its Facebook page that the date of the funeral, burial and condolences will be set later.
Najib began her artistic life in the late sixties of the twentieth century, and later became famous for the roles of the mother in Syrian drama, and contributed to the success of series that resonated with all the Arab world, such as the series “Sah Al-Nom” starring the Syrian actor Duraid Laham in the early seventies, and “The Four Seasons.” The end of the last century, and “Mirrors” starring the Syrian actor Yasser Al-Azma.
During her long career, Naguib presented dozens of works of art in television, cinema and theater.
Among the well-known series she has participated in are “Hammam Al-Qishani”, “Autumn Leaves”, “My Family and I”, “Donya” and “Al-Khawali”.
It also had a strong presence in theatrical productions during the last century, with works including “Hat in Al-Kharj”, “The Trees Die Standing” and “Sanaiya Catacombs”.
The Syrian director, Muhammad Zuhair Rajab, mourned her on his Facebook page, saying, “The beloved of all is gone, the kind and loving heart.”
Najeeb was exposed to several health problems during the past periods, following which she entered the intensive care unit, and her health deteriorated following undergoing periodic dialysis sessions.
Najib hails from the city of Daraa in southern Syria, and she is one of the oldest Syrian actresses, and her full name is Antoinette Najib Al-Balough, and her husband is the late artist Youssef Choueiri.
