Fifteen pro-government fighters were killed today (3/5) in Syria, in simultaneous attacks on three military positions launched by the Islamic State in the Syrian desert, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
The IS members surprised the forces of the Syrian regime and groups cooperating with them, in the east of the province of Homs, as a result of which at least 15 people were killed.
Syrian state media have made no mention of any attacks so far.
Although the group was defeated in 2019 in Syria, IS members have taken refuge in the desert and from there have launched deadly attacks, mainly targeting pro-government forces and Washington’s Kurdish allies. Their previous attack on April 19 killed 28 Syrian soldiers in Homs province. Most of the casualties belonged to the al-Quds Brigade, which also includes Palestinian fighters, according to the Observatory.
