THE latest Netflix Indonesian original film, Kabut Berduri, from acclaimed director Edwin, will premiere on Thursday, August 1, 2024. Co-produced with Palari Films, this crime thriller follows a detective from a big city who investigates a mysterious serial murder case on the border between Indonesia and Malaysia.

This series of cases eventually makes Sanja have to face her past. Actress Putri Marino plays Sanja, the detective who is determined to uncover the truth behind this horrific incident.

In addition to Putri Marino, the film also stars Yoga Pratama, Lukman Sardi, Yudi Ahmad Tajudin, Yusuf Mahardika, Iedil Dzuhrie Alaudin, Kiki Narendra, Siti Fauziah, and Sita Nursanti. In this film there is also a special appearance from actor Nicholas Saputra who plays a soldier.

Edwin, whose film won the Golden Leopard grand prize at the 2021 Locarno International Film Festival for Seperti Dendam, Rindu Harus Dibayar Tuntas, ventures into the new crime-investigative thriller genre with Kabut Berduri. Edwin also won the Citra Award for Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay at the 2022 Indonesian Film Festival for the film Seperti Dendam, Rindu Harus Dibayar Tuntas.

“I am interested in learning about the various stories, cultures, and lives of people living on the border. This film presents the perspective of someone who has lived almost his entire life in Jakarta or Java, who has learned a lot about Indonesia through the lens of the border. This is the reason I decided to shoot directly in the Kalimantan area,” said Edwin during a press conference after a limited screening with the media at Flix Cinema Ashta, Jakarta, Thursday, (11/7).
