Magnesium: an essential mineral for our good health
Magnesium plays an important role in our body. This mineral is a factor contributing to many enzymatic reactions: it participates in the regulation of cardiac activity and in the maintenance of electrical, metabolic and vascular homeostasis. In addition, magnesium participates in the processes of inflammation and oxidation.
Magnesium intake occurs naturally when we consume foods rich in magnesium such as peanut butter, spinach, beans, whole grains, bananas, milk and salmon.
If the person does not consume any of these foods, then a deficiency may occur. It can also occur following surgery. Magnesium deficiency is a contributing factor in the development of high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia (abnormally high concentration of lipids such as cholesterol, triglycerides, phospholipids and free fatty acids), metabolic syndrome, endothelial dysfunction, coronary artery disease, cardiac arrhythmia and cardiac death.

Symptoms of Magnesium Deficiency
A person with a magnesium deficiency will experience numbness, muscle cramps, headaches, tremors, loss of appetite and either general fatigue or hyperarousal and insomnia. Note that stress also depletes magnesium reserves.
Faced with these symptoms, a doctor can order a blood test to confirm or rule out a magnesium deficiency. The optimal level of magnesium in the blood is between 1.38 and 1.50 millimoles per liter (34-36 milligrams per liter).
If a deficiency is diagnosed, the doctor will recommend either changing the diet or having an artificial magnesium intake by way of tablets. Beware, however, of the risks of self-diagnosis and self-prescription: in the event of renal insufficiency, an excess of magnesium can be detrimental to you. This is why, before starting a magnesium cure, it is always recommended to contact a health professional.

The benefits of a magnesium cure
If you have a magnesium deficiency, carrying out a cure will allow you to find lasting energy, but also a much better resistance to stress as well as quality sleep. Magnesium will also prevent osteoporosis, since this mineral helps calcium to bind properly to the bones.
A magnesium cure can be carried out in different ways: through the consumption of food supplements (tablets, capsules, sachets, etc.), specific foods such as whole grains, seaweed, oilseeds, etc. But also by drinking mineral water enriched with magnesium. The best thing is to avoid the deficiency and therefore to take care to eat a balanced diet on a daily basis, while regularly drinking water rich in magnesium.
