Syiah Kuala Aceh UNIVERSITY has succeeded in making Banda Aceh proud. That’s because the caravan of students from the university at the heart of the people of Aceh succeeded in winning the overall championship at the International Qur’an Recitation Award (IQRA-USK).
The MTQ, which was attended by 21 universities from Indonesia, Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia and Thailand, will take place from 31 October – 3 November 2024 at USK. The overall winner was in accordance with the decision of the Panel of Judges which was delivered at the closing ceremony of the International MTQ on Sunday (3/11) evening, at the AAC Dayan Dawood Building, USK Campus in Darussalam, Banda Aceh.
IQRA-USK is the first international MTQ held by USK and is part of a series of commemorations of USK’s 63rd anniversary. This event was attended by 74 participants from 21 universities from four countries, namely Indonesia, Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia and Thailand.

There are three branches contested in this international scale MTQ. The three branches are Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur’an, Musabaqah Tahfidz Qur’an 10 Juz and Scientific English Debate on the Content of the Qur’an.
Representative of the Board of Judges, HT Mardhatillah, said that USK had the right to be the overall champion after winning the most prizes from the three MTQ branches. In this event, USK managed to get 17 points, followed by Muhammadiyah University of North Sumatra with 13 points. Next in third place is Lambung Mangkurat University with 6 points.
USK Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Prof. Agussabti, expressed his gratitude for the success of the USK caravan. Agussabti also advised that this achievement must be interpreted with full gratitude and humility.

Likewise for other participants who have not succeeded, he advised not to give up. However, this achievement should be a motivation to continue learning and improve his ability to study the Koran.
Because he assessed, at this event the participants not only showed talent and intelligence, but also dedication in upholding the values of the Quran and Islam.
“Whether through the beauty of recitations, depth of memorization, or eloquence in debate. Each of you has made an extraordinary contribution to the success and enthusiasm of this event,” said Agussabti.

Agussabti said he also expressed his congratulations and thanks for the achievements and enthusiasm of all participants to participate in IQRA-USK. This includes the support of all parties so that this International MTQ runs smoothly and successfully.
He said, IQRA-USK has a special meaning because it not only provides an opportunity for participants to compete and show their abilities.
But this activity also brings together individuals from various backgrounds and cultures with the same goal, namely glorifying the Koran. “This event reminds us all of the importance of unity, tolerance and mutual respect in our global community,” added Agus. (N-2)
