It is a file of 60 dense pages, of which each table and each paragraph converges towards the same conclusion: yes, Switzerland would be ready to host the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games from 2030. The feasibility study conducted by Swiss Olympic, the Olympic winter sports federations and Swiss Paralympic are final. The country “has the potential, the knowledge and the support of the population” necessary to host the event for the third time, following the 1928 and 1948 editions organized in Saint-Moritz, as well as around forty aborted attempts since.

The project rushes into a door recently opened by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) by having the candidacy carried not by a city, as was until then the custom, but by the entire country. Events would take place in each of the four linguistic regions, taking advantage of existing infrastructure and skills acquired locally through the organization of major international competitions. “By 2027, Switzerland will host World Championships in at least nine, or even ten, of the fourteen Olympic sports,” underlines Swiss Olympic in its press release.
