“Switzerland’s Agricultural Survey 2022: Key Findings from Federal Statistics Bureau”

Neuchâtel, 09.05.2023 – Switzerland had 48,344 farms in 2022, which is 1.1% less than the previous year. More and more of them practiced organic production: almost one farm in six (16.2%) was organic during the year under review. Covering 1,042,000 hectares, the useful agricultural area has remained stable compared to 2021. The number of animals has undergone various changes: if the number of dairy cows has decreased slightly (–0.5%) and that that of pigs increased slightly (+0.5%), that of poultry clearly increased (+4.3%). These results are taken from the latest survey of agricultural structures carried out by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
