Switzerland will donate a maximum of 15 million doses of coronavirus vaccine to other countries until the summer, the Federal Council decided on Wednesday. These unused doses will be forwarded to the multilateral COVAX program.
This donation will allow as many people as possible to have access to a safe and effective vaccination once morest Covid-19. Switzerland bought more doses than needed. For 2022, it has regarding 34 million doses. Even in the event of an additional recall, the supply for the population is assured, specifies the government.
The Confederation has already donated four million doses to the COVAX program in June 2021. Last December, it deferred the purchase of one million Moderna doses.
Medications
The Federal Council has also decided to centralize the purchase of drugs intended to protect immunosuppressed people. Purchase guarantee agreements should be signed with the manufacturers of these drugs.
Despite several vaccinations, some people do not develop immunity once morest the coronavirus. This is particularly the case for immunosuppressed people. These are very vulnerable to infection and need preventive protection with new drugs. These products should be authorized by Swissmedic during the year.
