Two regional trains derailed this Friday in Switzerland, north of the capital, just a few tens of kilometers from each other. These accidents left several injured, said the cantonal police of Bern.

The first train derailed around 4:30 p.m. (2:30 p.m. GMT), between Luscherz and Biel, and the second regarding twenty minutes later around Büren zum Hof, police spokeswoman Flurina Schenk told AFP. that “rescue interventions – police, ambulance and firefighters – are still in progress.”
The two accidents caused “several injuries”, she confirmed, without giving further details.
The cause of the accidents still unknown
The police were unable to explain the causes of these successive derailments which occurred north of the Swiss capital. The stormy winds, which crossed Switzerland on Friday, are probably the cause of the second derailment, according to the company RBS (Regionalverkehr Bern-Solothurn).
In the first derailment, “the rear part of the train overturned on the right side”, explained the police spokeswoman. The accident occurred on the line that runs along Lake Biel, operated by the company Aare Seeland mobil (Asm).
A depression centered on the south of England on Friday generated strong winds over part of Europe including Switzerland, underlines MeteoSwiss. The strongest gusts were generally accompanied by showers and thunderstorms. MeteoSwiss had warned in the morning once morest winds of 80 to 110 km / h in the plain and 100 to 140 km / h in the mountains.
