(Keystone-ATS) For Switzerland Tourism, the winter was a success. The organization particularly highlights the early snowfall in November which allowed the resorts to be fully booked during the end-of-year holidays.

After conducting the survey among ski areas and urban destinations, Switzerland Tourism describes the winter season which is coming to an end as “excellent”. “The already very satisfactory figures for winter 2022/2023 have even been exceeded in places,” adds the umbrella organization.

The good snow cover in November “made me want to take up winter sports throughout the winter”. This is what the high-altitude, car-free villages of Aletsch, in Haut-Valais, for example, were able to benefit from, notes the Confederation’s tourism promotion organization in a press release on Tuesday.

And the ski areas located near towns were not left out, according to Suisse Tourisme. On the Val d’Anniviers side, in Valais, the winter was even “exceptional”, with many accommodations being full or almost full, over a prolonged period.

The winter season was supported above all by local, but also European, hosts, underlines the organization. In addition, American tourists came in numbers, she notes.

There is only one downside, however: the end of the season turned out to be “mixed”, observes Suisse Tourisme. Thus, the few episodes of bad weather in February and early March darkened the picture occasionally, directing customers towards alternative activities, off the slopes.

But given “the excellent snow conditions, several high altitude ski areas will still remain open for two to four weeks, thus hoping to further strengthen an already very positive winter record,” she adds.
