A week before Easter, the South is already taken by storm by holidaymakers. Late Saturday morning, we had to wait 2h20 before being able to cross towards Ticino.
Many travelers want to head south for the weekend. This Saturday at noon, the plug between the junction of Altdorf and Göschenen extended over 14 kilometers. People who want to get to Ticino via the Gotthard must count on a wait of 2 hours and 20 minutes, as indicated by the TCS at 11:49 a.m.
70 days of waiting?
It is difficult to estimate the evolution of the situation, according to Sarah Wahlen, spokesperson for the TCS, interviewed by “20 minutes”. “We assume that people want to travel more following two years when they were more limited,” she explains. The TCS estimates that the heaviest traffic in the Gotthard is expected on Thursday April 14, just before the Easter weekend.
Sarah Wahlen advises motorists to leave either very early in the morning or later in the evening. Or bypass the Gotthard via the Grand-Saint-Bernard or the San Bernardino. Spicy detail Saturday morning: an error crept into the TCS Twitter feed, announcing a waiting time of… 70 days.
