Switzerland has 34,367 new cases of coronavirus in 24 hours

Switzerland has 34,367 additional cases of coronavirus in 24 hours on Thursday, according to figures from the Federal Office of Public Health (OFSP). There are 12 additional deaths and 185 patients have been hospitalized.

Seven days ago, the FOPH announced 32,128 cases. On the same day, he counted 9 deaths and 121 additional hospitalizations. In one week, the number of new cases has increased by 7%. At the same time, hospitalizations increased by 52.9%.

639 people are currently in intensive care. Covid-19 patients occupy 16.90% of the places available in intensive care, whose occupancy rate is 76.5%.

In the last 24 hours, the results of 81,864 tests have been transmitted. The positivity rate stands at 42%, compared to 46.4% a week ago. The reproduction rate, which has a delay of regarding ten days, is 1.25.

The Omicron variant represents 100% of coronavirus cases sequenced or examined in laboratories over seven days, with a delay of around two weeks.

According to the FOPH, 98,380 people are currently in isolation following having tested positive for coronavirus.

A total of 69.12% of Swiss people have already received two doses of the vaccine. Compared to the population aged over 12, the share of fully vaccinated people amounts to 78.18%, indicates the FOPH. In addition, 76.18% of people aged 65 and over and 41.82% of the total population have already received a booster dose.

Over the past 28 days, the total number of infections is 587,690, or 6,747.8 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants. Since the start of the pandemic, 3,241,328 cases of Covid-19 contamination have been confirmed in the laboratory out of a total of 20,112,698 tests carried out in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. The total number of deaths stands at 12,908 and the number of people hospitalized has reached 48,665.
