Switzerland has 16,734 new cases of coronavirus in 24 hours

Switzerland has 16,734 additional cases of coronavirus in 24 hours on Tuesday, according to figures from the Federal Office of Public Health (OFSP). There are 17 additional deaths and 109 patients have been hospitalized.

Seven days ago, the FOPH announced 15,191 cases. On the same day, he counted 14 deaths and 128 additional hospitalizations. In one week, the number of new cases has thus increased by 10.2%. At the same time, hospitalizations fell by 14.8%.

604 people are currently in intensive care. Covid-19 patients occupy 16.70% of the places available in intensive care, whose occupancy rate is 70.90%.

In the past 24 hours, the results of 40,873 tests have been transmitted. The positivity rate stands at 40.9%, compared to 32% a week ago. The reproduction rate, which has a delay of regarding ten days, is 0.94.

The Omicron variant represents 98.6% of coronavirus cases sequenced or examined in laboratories over seven days, with a delay of around two weeks.

According to the FOPH, 57,199 people are currently in isolation following testing positive for coronavirus.

A total of 69.01% of Swiss people have already received two doses of the vaccine. Compared to the population aged over 12, the share of fully vaccinated people amounts to 78.12%, indicates the FOPH. In addition, 75.86% of people aged 65 and over and 41.48% of the total population have already received a booster dose.

Over the past 28 days, the total number of infections is 540,714, or 6,208.43 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants. Since the start of the pandemic, 2,818,562 cases of Covid-19 contamination have been confirmed in the laboratory out of a total of 19,175,682 tests carried out in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. The total number of deaths stands at 12,744 and the number of people hospitalized has reached 46,662.
