The head of the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (DETEC) Albert Rösti took the opportunity to point out that France and Switzerland are closely linked in the gas sector. Certain French border regions are, for example, supplied by Switzerland. Gas deliveries from France are essential for Swiss supplies. Transported through Switzerland, they also serve Germany and Italy.

Federal Councilor Albert Rösti took advantage of the meeting to reiterate that Switzerland is keen to maintain close relations with neighboring countries in terms of energy, pending an agreement on electricity with the European Union (EU). ). Switzerland is highly integrated into the European electricity grid, offering stability and flexibility thanks to its hydropower plants.

French Minister Agnès Pannier-Runacher confirmed the undisputed need to maintain close ties between Switzerland and EU countries in the field of electricity exchanges. Switzerland must in particular not be subject to capacity restrictions in cross-border trade (70% rule). The minister welcomed the interest shown by Switzerland to be a stakeholder in the European electricity market.
