Switzerland: At least 6 injured by man’s knife attack on passers-by VIDEOS – 2024-07-19 17:08:53

According to the information, a man injured six people, two of them seriously, with a knife yesterday, Wednesday, followingnoon. The incident took place on a pedestrian street in the city and the perpetrator was arrested by the police.

The suspect “is of foreign origin and regarding 40 years old,” said police, who noted that they do not know much regarding him. He added that he is being treated and is under guard.

Authorities believe the suspect acted alone and that the public is no longer at risk, while they have not yet released any information on his motive.

“He used sharp and sharp weapons,” with which he injured 6 people, “two of them seriously,” he also noted in a statement issued late last night.

At the train station

Around 16:00 local time (17:00 Greek time) this man first attacked a passer-by at the train station of this city of regarding 12,000 inhabitants, which is located regarding sixty kilometers south of Basel and regarding the same distance west of Zurich.

He then proceeded to attack several people, apparently indiscriminately, before hiding in a house, according to the police statement.

After regarding two hours and following a special police team made contact with him, the man was arrested by law enforcement.

He was also injured and taken to hospital, canton police spokesman Bernhard Grasser said.

In statements he made to the newspaper Zofinger Tagblatt, the representative clarified that the perpetrator of the attack had injured himself.

One of the injured is pregnant

Among the injured are two members of the teaching staff of the public school in Schöfingen, its principal Patrick Stressler confirmed to news website 20minuten.ch.

He noted that the staff members were attacked outside the school premises, but did not elaborate on their health status.

The local newspaper Aargauer Zeitung published the testimony of a reader whose wife, who is pregnant, was attacked by the unknown man “with a metal object”.

The woman “suffered facial injuries and swelling, but is fine given the circumstances,” her husband told the newspaper.

The woman was taken to the cantonal hospital in Aarau, which is regarding 20 kilometers from Schöfingen.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward with information, photos and videos that may help with the investigation.

Development of police forces

Footage shown on the Aargauer Zeitung website shows a large deployment of police forces and rescue crews.

They mostly show members of the law enforcement in helmets and bulletproof vests carrying weapons in their belts as they retrieve equipment from a black 4X4 vehicle. Other officers are seen getting out of a vehicle that sped to the area and are armed with assault rifles.

According to the protothema, ambulances and a helicopter can also be seen to have rushed to the scene.
