Swisscom plans to phase out 3G at the end of 2025

The telecommunications operator Swisscom is planning the end of the 3rd generation of mobile communication (3G) at the end of 2025. Introduced in 2004, this technology has now been exceeded by the next two generations, underlines a press release released on Tuesday.

The blue giant adds that while 3G only supports 1.1% of mobile data traffic, it still occupies a tenth of the antenna capacity. The abandonment of this technology will thus free up frequencies for 4G and 5G.

Swisscom invites its customers to obtain information in the group’s stores or from its dedicated service to help them make the transition to new technologies without a hitch.
