Swisscom has chosen to migrate the blue TV recording platform to AWS, in collaboration with the French group Ateme, a leader in the field of video compression and broadcasting solutions.

Swisscom has concluded a new contract with Ateme, a leading French company in the field of video compression and distribution solutions. The blue giant has opted for Ateme’s complete OTT (over-the-top) streaming service solution to migrate the blue TV digital video recording (CDVR) platform to AWS, the provider says. Who adds that it is “the world’s first large-scale CDVR in a public cloud”.

Atem specifies that the set of services chosen by Swisscom also includes OTT packaging and distribution solutions. Swisscom had also already deployed, in collaboration with the French group, virtualized transcoders for the blue TV infrastructure.

“Subscribers are watching and saving more and more content. We needed a scalable solution that would allow us to keep up with this growth, without being limited by our internal infrastructure. Ateme was the natural choice, having already helped deploy the fully virtualized headend in 2018 and having proven its worth through years of strong support,” says Marco Lötscher, Head of Technology Group at Swisscom TV & Smart Products.
