The Swiss team failed to reach the podium in the women’s world championship held in Singapore. Coach Oscar Lundin’s players lost 5-4 to the Czech Republic in the bronze medal match.
The disappointment is great for the Swiss, who had offered a superb – but vain – resistance to the Swedish favorites in the semi-final (4-2 defeat). They also led 2-0 once morest the Czechs following 28 minutes of play.
The Swiss selection, however, did not give up, getting back to 5-4 45 seconds from the end of regulation time following having conceded the 5-3 in a cage abandoned by its goalkeeper Lara Heini. But the Czechs held on to win the 2nd medal in their history in a women’s world championship.
Switzerland, for its part, remained on five consecutive world podiums, including four bronze medals obtained each time thanks to a success over the Czechs. The last failure of the Swiss dates back to the 2011 edition, in St. Gallen: they then took 4th place, beaten by… the Czechs in the duel for bronze.
