There are ten horror minutes that our women’s national team experienced in the friendly once morest Austria!
Between the 64th and 74th minute, Switzerland conceded three goals in the test in Marbella, conceded yellow-red (Viola Calligaris) and missed the best Swiss chance of the game. At 0: 1 full-back Eseosa Aigbogun slept. At 0:2 the whole defense looks bad. And the 0: 3 is a strictly whistled hand penalty, because Calligaris gets the ball at close range on the arm and therefore also sees her second yellow card.
In between, Sally Julini manages (71′) to shoot over the goal from a few yards.
Ouch! This is not how Nati coach Nils Nielsen imagined the last test match before the hot phase of the year. Because following the now ending training camp in Spain, Nielsen has to have his team together. The time for experiments is over.
Now the EM squad has to stand
The hot World Cup qualifiers once morest Italy and Romania follow in April. And then the European Championships in England in the summer. Who else jumped on the EM train? Possibly more the experienced players among the wobbly candidates.
Despite the absence of various ailing regulars such as Lia Wälti or Ana Maria Crnogorcevic, there are not young wild ones in the starting XI. But regarding Vanessa Bernauer (33), Irina Pando (26) and Sandrine Mauron (25).
The youngsters like Sally Julini (19), Thais Hurni (23) and Serena Li Puma (18) then come in the second half – and experience the horror minutes on the pitch.
Women’s European Championship 2025: Ukraine is a SFV competitor
A football EM in the crisis country Ukraine? It’s pretty hard to imagine at the moment. But Ukraine is one of the candidate countries for the women’s European Championship 2025 – and is therefore a competitor for Switzerland. The SFV also wants to bring the tournament to the country in three years’ time, and the application dossier is currently being worked on.
Uefa awards the tournament next December. In addition to Switzerland and Ukraine, Poland, France and the joint candidacy of Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Norway are also applying.
