The four Swiss women’s duos competing at the Europeans in Vienna will take part in the knockout phase. The pairs Tanja Hüberli/Nina Brunner and Esmée Böbner/Zoé Vergé-Dépré have even already qualified for the round of 16.
Sacred on the continental scene in the Austrian capital in 2021, Tanja Hüberli and her partner Nina Brunner won the Group A final by beating the Germans Sandra Ittlinger / Karla Borger 17-15 in the 3rd set. They had to erase 2 match points in the tie-break.
Esmée Böbner and Zoé Vergé-Dépré also won in three sets in the Group H final, at the expense of the Austrians Dorina and Ronja Klinger. Menia Bentele and Anna Lutz have meanwhile obtained the right to play in the round of 32 following finishing 3rd in this pool H.
The Anouk Vergé-Dépré/Joana Mäder duo was beaten in the Group E final, losing in 2 sets to the Dutch Emi van Driel/Brecht Piersma. The bronze medalists of the 2021 Olympics will therefore have to play a round of 16.
