Bern, 05.09.2023 – The European Skills Championships (EuroSkills) are a major showcase for vocational training and provide a platform for international contacts. From September 6 to 9, Rémy Hübschi, deputy director of the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI), will travel to Gdańsk, Poland, on the occasion of EuroSkills 2023. He will discuss with its counterparts from other European countries on topics related to vocational training, will attend competitions and welcome the Swiss team in the running.
In his capacity as head of the Vocational and Continuing Education Division at SERI, Rémy Hübschi will travel to the EuroSkills in Poland to personally encourage and greet the Swiss team. In particular, he plans to attend a conference on vocational training on the theme “Skills for the future” and to participate in a round table bringing together leading representatives of the German, Austrian, Luxembourg and Swiss Ministries of Education. In addition to Switzerland, these four countries have a dual vocational training system that is partly unknown to other European countries. The round table will be an opportunity to present Swiss vocational training and to draw attention to its permeability and its direct link with the world of work, as well as to discuss the challenges facing vocational training. On the sidelines of the Euroskills, Rémy Hubschi will also meet with counterparts from other countries.
“The participation of Swiss professionals in international professional championships such as the EuroSkills or the WorldSkills contributes greatly to increasing the visibility and notoriety of our dual vocational training system at the international level,” said Rémy Hübschi. We would be all the happier if the European Skills Championships took place for the first time in Switzerland in 2029.” Indeed, the SwissSkills Foundation Board and Geneva have submitted an application for the organization of EuroSkills 2029. The final decision as to the location of the event will be taken in spring 2024, during the General Assembly of WorldSkills Europe.
The Confederation welcomes the Swiss application for EuroSkills 2029. Under the Federal Law on Vocational Training, SERI has been supporting the activities of the SwissSkills Foundation for many years with two to three million francs per year. , which coordinates the organization and promotes the development of the Swiss professions championships in close collaboration with the vocational training partners. The Confederation also works with the cantons and professional associations to promote attractive and forward-looking vocational training.
