Anouk Vergé-Dépré and Joana Mäder barely won their first match at the World Championships in Tlaxcala, Mexico. The Swiss pair lost the initial round before reacting.
The Swiss finally beat the Thai duo of Taravadee Naraphornrapat and Worapeerachayakorn Kongphopsarutawadee 22-24 21-15 15-12. In the first set, Vergé-Dépré/Mäder led 16-11 before losing their bearings. They missed a set point at 20-19.
The Swiss pair then regained control of operations and won the second round quite easily. The deciding set was once more quite close. The Swiss, trailing 11-12, then scored four points to secure the victory of the game. The two other Swiss duos will be in the running on Saturday evening. These are the European champions Tanja Hüberli/Nina Brunner as well as Esmée Böbner/Zoé Vergé-Dépré.
