– The majority of Swiss are not afraid of rent increases
Behind the unbeatable costs of health, it is the price of the shopping cart, more than that of housing, that worries the population.

The Swiss are calm in the face of rent increases, but in the cities (here Geneva), the inhabitants are a little more concerned than in the countryside.

Struck by the increase in prices, the Swiss are seeing more and more prices rise in several areas. But what worries them the most? To answer this question, Tamedia (publisher of this newspaper) conducted the survey. The survey results initially lead to a highly anticipated response, but then reserve a few surprises. Explanations.
The “banality”, if we dare to call it that, is the first place of health premiums. Rising healthcare costs are cited by 52% of respondents. This is the number one concern of the Swiss, regardless of gender, age, education or place of residence.
What is surprising is the place of housing in this survey. It is cited by only 12% of respondents. And finished in third place, tied with rising energy costs. Food products are second at 13%. Fifth, prices related to mobility, such as public transport or fuel.
The soufflé might fall
If this weak housing result is surprising, it is because the survey took place following the rise in the benchmark interest rate, which might increase rents by 3%.
In detail, however, we see that this question worries cities (18%) more than the countryside (8%). More young people (20% among 18-34 year olds) than older people (7% among those over 65).
While housing was perceived as a possible campaign theme for the federal election, the soufflé might fall. Even within the electorates of the left, the problem is struggling to take. Only 17% of Socialist sympathizers and 16% of Greens say they are concerned regarding rising rents.
