Swiss Mountaineer Sophie Lavaud Conquers Nanga Parbat: Supported by REYL Intesa Sanpaolo

Sophie Lavaud reached the summit of Nanga Parbat (8,125 meters) in Pakistan on Monday June 26, after more than 12 hours of climbing in difficult conditions, with lots of snow and wind.

REYL Intesa Sanpaolo is proud to support Sophie Lavaud, a mountaineer who climbed Pakistan’s Nanga Parbat, located in the Himalayan range, on Monday. She thus reached both her 14th and last summit of more than 8,000 meters and her goal, eleven years after having set it.

This mountaineer, supported by REYL Intesa Sanpaolo since 2017, is of Swiss, French and Canadian nationality. She is therefore both the first Swiss woman, the first French person and the first Canadian person to reach the 14 peaks over 8000 meters in the Himalayan and Karakoram ranges.

After a career as a hotel, luxury and events manager in Geneva, Sophie Lavaud made a remarkable entry into the world of mountaineering in 2012. She successfully climbed the central Shishapangma (8,012 meters) and the Cho Oyu (8,201 meters), just ten days apart. His ascent of Everest in 2014 and his first attempt to climb K2 in 2016 were the subject of films directed by French filmmaker and guide François Damilano (“On va marche sur l’Everest” and “K2, une particular day”). In 2019, she successfully climbed Annapurna, Kangchenjunga and Gasherbrum I. In April 2023, she climbed Shishapangma (8,027 meters).

Sophie Lavaud is an ambassador for the NGO Terre des Hommes and supports humanitarian projects aimed at improving the chances of survival for pregnant women in the mountainous regions where she leads her expeditions.
