Meeting in Botswana, the 18th Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage on Tuesday evening included the mountain pasture season in Switzerland on the representative list of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity. The evaluation committee highlighted the quality of the file and the film presented.

“Bringing livestock to summer pastures on high altitude pastures has been a tradition documented since the Middle Ages,” recalled Julien Vuilleumier, scientific collaborator in charge of intangible cultural heritage at the Federal Office of Culture. “It brings together a whole repertoire of customs, know-how and rituals which make it a living heritage,” he added to the committee and delegations from countries around the world.
