UNESCO on Tuesday inscribed the mountain pasture season on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This application was submitted in March 2022 by Switzerland.

An emblematic tradition of Swiss mountain areas, the alpine season brings together know-how, customs and rituals around the Alpine economy, underlines the Federal Office of Culture (FOC) in a press release.

This tradition dates back to the Middle Ages. “It has been constantly adapted to local climatic, social and economic conditions and continues to be the practice used to produce the quality food products for which Switzerland is known,” adds the OFC.
