The Swiss men won two important victories at the European Curling Championships in Aberdeen on Tuesday. The women remain undefeated.

The CC Geneva men’s team is heading for the semi-finals in Aberdeen. Thanks to the 6th win in the 8th game, the Swiss, together with Scotland, are the first pursuers of the unbeaten leaders Italy. 4th place in the round robin entitles you to advance.

After Skip Yannick Schwaller’s team lived up to their role as favorites once morest newly promoted Czech Republic in the followingnoon (10:7), the Swiss also defeated the Swedish team of Olympic champion and five-time world champion Niklas Edin in the evening. In the 6:3 triumph, none of the teams recorded more than one stone in all 9 ends played. However, Schwaller, Benoît Schwarz-van Berkel, Sven Michel and Pablo Lachat were able to steal a stone in both the 2nd and 7th and 8th ends and thus steadily pulled away.

Qualification for the semi-finals has not yet been determined, but it is very likely. Of the teams that might catch up with Switzerland in the 9th round, Schwaller and Co. have the best coefficient of the so-called stone game throughout the tournament. At the end of the round robin they will play once morest direct rivals Norway on Wednesday (from 3:00 p.m. on the SRF live stream), a win would be enough for the knockout phase.

8th win in the 8th game for the Swiss

In the women’s category, Germany mightn’t hold a candle to the Swiss curlers in Aberdeen. Skip Silvana Tirinzoni’s team won effortlessly with 8:6 and remained undefeated at the European Championships. Even before the game, Switzerland was already confirmed as a semi-finalist.

The Germans, led by Emira Abbes and threatened with relegation to the EM-B tournament, initially kept up well. After 4 ends it was 3:3. From the 5th end onwards, the Swiss finally took command.

At the end of the Round Robin, Tirinzoni, Alina Pätz, Selina Witschonke and Carole Howald will meet Italy, currently in second place, on Thursday morning. The semi-finals are on the program in the evening (all live on SRF).
