Franziska Rochat-Moser
Born in 1966, the Bernoise is a marathon specialist. When she set off on the Morat-Fribourg course in 1997, she was Swiss champion in the discipline, had a victory in the Frankfurt marathon and had just distinguished herself in the 20 km of Lausanne.
Franziska Rochat-Moser will not only fly through the event but will be the first woman to go under the hour by achieving a time of 58’50, a record which will stand until 2019.

A few weeks following her success in Fribourg, Franziska Rochat-Moser took part in the New York marathon. She then achieved a formidable feat by winning the race in 2 hours 28 minutes and 43 seconds. This success in one of the most prestigious events in the world propels the 35-year-old Bernese athlete into the limelight.
Zenebech Tola
The Ethiopian was seeking asylum in Switzerland when she won the 2003 edition of the Morat-Fribourg race. In January 2004, the show Sunday Sports discusses his situation in a report. The athlete, who was then 19 years old, cannot leave Switzerland because of his status. It is therefore in Switzerland that she races, and she wins practically everything, such is her talent.

Having acquired refugee status, Zenebech Tola requested naturalization several times, in vain. In 2005, she became a citizen of Bahrain (her name will henceforth be Maryam Yussuf Isa Jamal) and finally began an international career. World champion in the 1500 meters in 2007 and 2009, she will be Olympic champion in the same discipline in London in 2012.
Maude Mathys
If mountain running and trail running are her specialties (4 consecutive victories on Sierre-Zinal between 2019 and 2022), Maude Mathys is at ease on the hilly course of Morat-Fribourg. In 2017 and 2018, the five-time European mountain running champion crossed the finish line in the lead. She occupies second place in the 2021 edition.

Helen Bekele Tola
Of Ethiopian nationality, the athlete lives in Geneva. She plays the leading roles in international marathons: victory in Barcelona in 2017, 2nd place in Tokyo and 3rd place in Berlin in 2012. She dominated the classics of French-speaking Switzerland for several years: 4 victories in the Escalade race and 3 victories at the 20 km of Lausanne.
In 2019, Helen Bekele Tola created the feat by shortening the record established by Franziska Rochat by one minute. Moser in 1997, thus setting the new reference time at 57’50.
