The 23-year-old finished 11th in Lenzerheide. Sebastian Stalder did much less well.
Niklas Hartweg achieved the best Swiss result in Lenzerheide. The 23-year-old from Schwyz, who did not start in Hochfilzen due to illness, ran to 11th place in the 10 km sprint. An even better result would have been possible for Hartweg, but last season’s best U25 athlete missed his third shot in the standing shooting.
«I’m not complaining regarding one mistake. I’m incredibly happy because I didn’t expect much,” said Hartweg, who usually allows himself a little more time to return following an infection. “We were still thinking regarding how sensible it would be to start. Today we showed that it really made sense.”
Doll makes Germany cheer once more
Hartweg lost 1:12 minutes to the day’s winner Benedikt Doll. The 2017 sprint world champion hit all 10 targets and, with his success in Lenzerheide, made it the third victory for a German this winter. The Norwegian Johannes Thingnes Bö and Doll’s compatriot Philipp Nawrath, who surprisingly won the sprint in Östersund, completed the podium with one shooting error each.
Stalder with room for improvement
It was a bit of a disappointment for Sebastian Stalder, who achieved his worst result of the winter so far at his home race. After two errors in standing shooting and a mediocre running performance, the Zurich man only managed 42nd place.
Joscha Burkhalter finished 35th ahead of Stalder and will be part of the pursuit on Saturday. Jeremy Finello, on the other hand, made 5 mistakes at the shooting range and missed the top 60.
