Two Swiss competed in the final of the Dobbiaco free sprint, 1st stage of the Tour de Ski. Both Nadine Fähndrich and Valerio Grond took fifth place.
For the first time this winter, Nadine Fähndrich managed to reach the final, the 18th of her career. The Lucernoise thus signed her best result of a season that has been quite difficult so far.
But she was unable to fight for victory and took fifth place, 1”34 behind Swede Linn Svahn. She preceded her compatriot Jonna Sundling by 0”07 and the Norwegian Kristine Stavaas Skistad, ahead of 0”29.
Double for the French
Among the men, Valerio Grond also stood out, qualifying with authority for the final. But his strength ran out on the last lap and he let go.
This fifth place, however, constitutes a very good result. The race was marked by a French double, Lucas Chavanat winning with 0”22 ahead of Jules Chappaz and 0”49 over the American Ben Ogden.
