Noè Ponti is the new world vice-champion in the 50m butterfly in short course! In Melbourne, the Ticinese set a stunning time of 21.96 to beat his own Swiss record set the day before by 5 hundredths. Victory went to Brazilian Nicholas Santos in 21.78.
Lining up in the 50m butterfly above all to get used to the conditions and soak up the atmosphere of the world championships, Noè Ponti surprised everyone, his best time in short course before this meeting being 22 ” 52.
This is the second time that the Ticino has won a medal at the World Championships in short course. Last year in Abu Dhabi, he won silver in the 200m butterfly.
Noè Ponti is not done yet in Melbourne since he will still be competing in the 100m and 200m butterfly, where he has a good chance of winning one or two new medals.
