Swiatek won six games in a row to bag the first set. The Pole also led 1-0 in the second set before Wozniacki stopped her game. Swiatek was not very happy that the match had to end because of Wozniacki’s injury.
“I just want to hit the ball cleaner, to be honest, because it’s not easy,” he said.
“I had a lot of chances, but with his defense, he put pressure on the opposition by playing forehand, backhand, and everywhere else. He ran a lot and gave everything,” he added.

This meeting was the second match between the two tennis players. The first occurred in 2019 or seven months following Swiatek made her WTA main draw debut and five months before Wozniacki retired.
Wozniacki returned to the field last season. The Danish tennis player started her quest for a first win over Swiatek since she beat Simona Halep to win the 2018 Australian Open.
Swiatek is the champion of the 2022 edition of Indian Wells. In the semifinals she will meet Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk, who beat Russia’s Anastasia Potapova 6-0, 7-5 in the other quarter-final. (AFP/M-3)
US Open champion Coco Gauff also earned her first place in the Indian Wells semifinals following beating China’s Yuan Yue 6-4, 6-3.
