A group of sweepers who belonged to the Ctalamuchita Cooperative of Villa María protested this Monday in front of the Municipality and asked to be reinstated for cleaning service.
The municipality already received them last week and assures that it has no participation in the conflict. The cooperative was subcontracted by the company Cotreco, who won the bid to sweep the city.
For weeks, Villa María sweeping workers have been demonstrating following layoffs within the aforementioned cooperative and last week they had carried out a similar protest. On that occasion, they were received by the municipal Chief of Staff, Héctor Muñoz, local media reported.
The workers carried out sweeping and cleaning tasks in different neighborhoods of Villa María. Some of them joined the protest demanding improvements in working conditions.
The cooperative entity reportedly told them to “look for another source of employment” and some of them were fired, Villa María Vivo published.
Prior to this, they demanded salary improvements since some would be earning between 80,000 and 130,000 pesos per month.
