The Swedish Parliament (Riksdag) approved the government’s proposal to ban the extraction of coal, oil and natural gas. In addition, parliamentarians approved the initiative of representatives of another branch of government to tighten the rules for the extraction of alum clay.
The Riksdag agreed to new rules regarding the extraction of substances. The government and parliament believe that the extraction of energy resources has a negative impact on the citizens of the country and the environment. The ban applies to the extraction of hard and brown coal, crude and shale oil, and natural gas. “Permits will no longer be issued,” the legislature said in a statement.
Amendments to the national environmental code and the subsoil law will come into force on July 1 this year.
