2023-09-01 17:02:34

Sweden won the title of European show jumping champion this followingnoon in Milan, sharing the podium with the solid Ireland and the surprising Austria, respectively in silver and bronze. France only finished eighth, but they still have two real chances for the individual final with Olivier Perreau and Julien Épaillard, four and seventh associated with Dorai d’Aiguilly*GL events and Dubaï du Cèdre.

16h10 : At the end of the grand team final of the European Championships in Milan, Sweden are European champions, two years following their Olympic title in Tokyo and their world title in Herning! What raid for Swedish show jumping, which is undoubtedly living through the best period of its long history!! Ireland is silver medalist and Austria creates THE big surprise of this championship by finishing bronze medalist, in addition to winning its Olympic qualification! Germany finished just off the podium. Spain and Switzerland, who had both come to seek their qualification, also won their bet. Switzerland unfortunately finished sixth despite being one of the favourites, while France finished eighth, between the Netherlands and Great Britain.

16h07 : a fault for Gerrit Nieberg and Ben 431. It is very expensive, since Germany lets slip the bronze medal to Austria…

16h05 : although he did not have the pressure of team performance, since Sweden was already guaranteed to be European champions, Rolf-Göran Bengtsson unfolded a magnificent clear round on Zuccero! The couple is thirteenth individually.

16h02 : Martin Fuchs and Leone Jei unfortunately leave two bars behind them… Switzerland, big favorites for the team title with Sweden, will leave Milan “only” with their Olympic qualification, which was their main objective. The scores being extremely tight, Switzerland finished sixth.

15:59: Ireland add four points to their counter following the passage of Eoin McMahon and Mila. If Martin Fuchs, who will start just following, is clear, Switzerland will be silver and Ireland bronze.

15:56: if it is already qualified for the Olympic Games in Paris, Austria still had the pressure to get on the podium. With four points, the nation with the red and white flag gives way to Martin Fuchs and Leone Jei, the last Swiss couple to start.

15h52 : the Netherlands come out with a clear round to finish on a high note! Harrie Smolders and Uricas v/d Kattevennen have just had an absolutely perfect run. They are currently seventh.

15h47 : while he was in fourth individual place last night, Julien Épaillard suffered a really annoying fault on the exit of the double 5. Dubaï du Cèdre however jumped extremely well and did not seem at all blunted by the first two trials. He is now down to seventh place, while Olivier Perreau is currently fourth provisionally.

15h44 : Switzerland has qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics! At home, Italy fails to win its entry ticket. She will have one last chance at the final of the Longines Nations Cups in Barcelona, where one last ticket will be up for grabs.

15h43 : Jana Wargers and Limbridge leave two fouls behind, dropping gold to Sweden!

SWEDEN IS EUROPEAN CHAMPION!!!!

15h42 : SWEDEN IS EUROPEAN CHAMPION!!!!!!!!!!! Reigning Olympic champion, reigning world champion, and now reigning European champion! And without its usual pillars who are King Edward, Peder Fredricson and Malin Baryard-Johnsson! Which team!

15h40 : JENS FREDRICSON AND MARKAN COSMOPOLIT SIGN THE FLAWLESS!!! Sweden is a few hundredths of a point from being European champions! Everything will depend on Germany…

15:37: it does not pass for Édouard Schmitz and Gamin van’t Naastveldhof. The couple come out with twelve points and Switzerland are demoted to provisional fourth place.

3:35 p.m.: four points for Shane Sweetnam and James Kann Cruz… If Ireland wants to stay within four points in the second set and reach the podium, Eoin McMahon will have to give everything!

AUSTRIA AND SPAIN QUALIFIED FOR THE PARIS 2024 OLYMPIC GAMES!

15h33 : following the flawless performance of Max Kühner and Elektric Blue P, Austria and Spain are sure to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games!!! For Switzerland, it is normally only a matter of seconds…

3:30 p.m.: it smells scorched for the Olympic qualification of the Italians… Emanuele Camilli and Odense Odeveld sinned on the double 5 and the entry of the triple.

15h28 : Jur Vrieling and Long John Silver 3 NOP leave two fouls behind. The Netherlands are currently eighth…

Kevin Staut gave everything, but it does not pass

15h23 : Kevin Staut carried and requested Dialou Blue PS, but that wasn’t enough… The Normand came out with two faults, conceded in the middle of the triple and the penultimate obstacle. France being far from a chance of a medal, Julien Épaillard, last of the team, will try to maintain his individual lead with Dubaï du Cèdre.

15h07 : we have been so used to his perfect scores since the start of the championship that we would be tempted to say “since when has the exceptional Zineday left bars on the ground?” The fabulous chestnut, son of Zinedine, the former star of Ludger Beerbaum, sinned on the vertical 3. Germany will no longer have the right to make mistakes because, as a reminder, all scores will count due to the withdrawal of Marcus Ehning.

15h05 : what a pair!! Still unknown to the general public a year and a half ago, Wilma Hellström and Cicci BJN made the Swedish supporters rise, who applauded this superb clear round! Sweden holds the good end!

A great show by Steve Guerdat and Dynamix de Bélhème!

15h : following Steve Guerdat’s faultless opener, Switzerland collected eight additional points. Bryan Balsiger and Dubai du Bois Pinchet dropped oxer 7 and penultimate. Édouard Schmitz will be under pressure!

14:59: four points on the out of the triple for Trevor Breen and Highland President. With Michael Duffy’s clear round previously, Ireland remain fourth provisionally.

14h54 : only four points for Alberto Zorzi and Highlight W. The pair, which many observers discover at this level, sinned on the vertical on bidet 5. Remember that this score will count no matter what since Emanuele Gaudiano was eliminated following two rejections.

14h51 : following the one-point run from Willem Greve, Maikel van der Vleuten receives a six-point penalty with O’Bailey vh Brouwershof NOP.

Marcus Ehning withdraws, “Stargold is not 100%”

14h50 : German team leader Otto Becker has just told the media that Marcus Ehning did not feel 100% Stargold and preferred not to start. “The horse is not lame, but he is not at 100% of his abilities”did he declare.

14h48 : Mégane Moissonnier and Cordial leave with thirteen penalty points. The second French couple, who are competing, let’s remember, in their first major championships, stumbled on the first bar of the oxer 7 as well as the entrance and the middle of the triple.

14h44 : Marcus Ehning does not start. The Stargold rider has indicated that he will not start and withdraws for the rest of the championship. The German had however started to warm up his mount in the paddock, and would perhaps not have felt in good shape…

Henrik von Eckermann leaves the last on the ground

14:42: ouch the last one for Henrik von Eckermann… The Swede has just knocked down the last obstacle of the course, a vertical of panels, following an excellent course with Iliana. Sweden give air to Switzerland and Germany.

14:39: BUT WHAT A JOURNEY! Steve Guerdat and the fabulous Dynamix of Bélhème have just unrolled a splendid score, so well put together!!! The score is obviously perfect for the couple, which also holds its rank individually.

14h36 : no fault for Michael Duffy and Cinca 3! Ireland, third in the provisional, starts well.

14:32: it’s elimination for Emanuele Gaudiano and Crack Balou, and the worst start for Italy, which is competing at home for its Olympic qualification. The Italian rider rode a course frankly lacking in serenity and approached his triple very badly, before his generous stallion refused the exit then the entry on the second pass. The next three riders will have no room for error…

14h31 : when the Dutch are faultless, you can see and hear it! The supporters in orange in the stands have just risen to applaud the superb flawless performance of Willem Greve and Highway TN.

14h26 : Armande Trapote has just achieved the virgin score with her boiling Tornado VS! Spain, in pursuit of its Olympic qualification, starts well!

Dexter Fontenis finds his form!

14h22 : and a first clear round for the French team!! Simon Delestre found Dexter Fontenis in top form and completed the perfect score. The Blues are well on their way to trying to move up the rankings.

14h20 : first team rider to take the start, in the reverse order of the classification, the Briton Ben Maher signs a superb clear round with Faltic HB! What a collection of horses the Olympic champion has!

Olivier Perreau and Dorai d’Aiguilly*GL Events still dazzling!!!

14h14 : waited a long time on the track because his mare had unshod the paddock, Olivier Perreau has just signed a MAGNIFICENT clear round!!! Like the two previous days, the Frenchman flew over the course with Dorai d’Aiguilly*GL Events and did not get any reprieve. Alas, the couple inherited an outdated point of time. Eighth individually last night, he should still remain in the top 10 at the end of this event.

14h03 : playing the championship in individual while Germany is leading the team competition, Christian Kukuk conceded a small fault in the triple with Mumbai.

13:59: the Belgians are trying to rectify the situation following their rout yesterday. After Olivier Philippaerts and H&M Miro’s four-point run, Wilm Vermeir and Iq van het Steentje suffered seven penalty points but still achieved an honorable run.

1:54 p.m. : while she had started a good run with L’Artiste de Toxandra, Ioli Mytilineou had a little more trouble in the second half of the run. The Greek conceded a big fault on the vertical surmounted by a panel in number 8 and on the following oxer.

1:47 p.m.: what a Home-Run performance! The eleven-year-old daughter of Spartacus TN, piloted by Przemyslaw Konopacki, had a magnificent run, showing all her talent. The Pole will surely have the phone ringing in the next few days…

13h41 : Olivier Philippaerts and H&M Miro, who are competing in their first major championships, do honor to Belgium, unfortunately not qualified for this team final and who are therefore competing individually. They sign a beautiful no-fault.

13h38 : four points for Elian Baumann. The Swiss, who competes individually with Little Lumpi E, stumbled on the vertical entry of the double 5.

13:37: Andreas Schou did not start in number 2 as expected. It is not yet known if the Dane withdrew or if his horse lost a shoe.

13:35: second starter, Johan-Sebastien Gulliksen completes the first scoreless! The Norwegian, riding Harwich VDL, worked hard to achieve it, but he did it!

13h32 : first rider to leave, only individually like the next fourteen riders, the Italian Francesco Turturiello is doing well from Uliano Vezzani’s course. The rider from Made In’t Ruytershof is wrong on the vertical 10 and suffers from a time point exceeded, but still delivers a good performance.

1:30 p.m.: what a pleasure to see that today, the stands of the Milan track are filled! They are not very big, but at least there are no empty seats…

13:25: only five minutes left before the start of the big team final of the European Championships in Milan! The course seems in the same odds as yesterday (find the route plan here), even if the oxer 7 is quite impressive. There will be no river, which we will normally see once more in the individual final on Sunday. The triple, opened by two big oxers, might also cause faults.
