An abandoned bag in a park in Stockholm on Sunday evening caused the evacuation of spectators. The explosive device was neutralized on the spot.

Swedish police announced on Monday that they had defused a bomb, of still unknown origin, discovered the day before at a cultural festival organized in Stockholm, which caused the evacuation of hundreds of people. The deminers were called Sunday evening, because of an abandoned bag in the Kungstradgarden park, in the center of the capital, where several theater and music performances were organized. “The demining team neutralized the device on the spot,” said the police.
“We believe the bag contained an explosive charge. All components will now be examined. It is only following that that we will be able to say if this dangerous object was able to explode”, specified Erik Akerlund, district chief of the Stockholm police.
A preliminary investigation for destruction of public property has been opened. Police are interviewing witnesses and reviewing footage taken at the scene, she said. But so far no one has been arrested.
