French deputies positioned themselves during a debate on the situation in Ukraine
French deputies confronted their positions on the war in Ukraine on Monday during a long debate without a bang, but not without small piques. Here is a summary of the positions adopted on various topics discussed during the discussions:
For the Prime Minister, who spoke in the introduction to the debate, “they work”. Elisabeth Borne also did not fail to castigate “those who mask their fascination with Russian imperialism with so-called patriotism”.
“To those who relay propaganda [russe] I ask the question: if these sanctions were so ineffective, why would Putin be so desperate to have them lifted?added the president of the Renaissance group Aurore Bergewhen the deputy Charles sitting chair denounced the “so long ideological complicity” of the extreme right with Russia.
Laurent Marcangeli (Horizons) denounced the ” lying “ of “harder penalties for the French than for the Russians”, Frederic Petit lambasting, on the MoDem side, those who “by electoral calculation, or by intellectual submission” will want to put an end to it, and directly challenging the National Rally.
MP RN Jerome Buisson countered that the energy sanctions were “counterproductive”and allowed Russia “to increase profits”. “It is legitimate to sanction Russia”but sanctions should target “oligarchs and the export of goods used by the arms industry”he pleaded.
Side La France insoumise, the president of the group, Mathilde Panotquestioned the « pertinence » of certain sanctions which “have aggravated the rise in the price of hydrocarbons, and allowed Russia to see its commercial profits explode”. She also put back on the table the Nupes proposal for a tax on superprofits, rather than making “pay the poor for inflation”.
“Don’t give in to bluffing”called the LR Jean-Louis Thieriotcalling for “maintain and strengthen sanctions”although the energy crisis is also the consequence “mistakes in energy policies since 2012”.
Regretting the“blindness” state services before the Russian invasion, the president of the LIOT group (Liberties, independents, overseas and territories) Bertrand Pancher called to “accelerate on defense Europe”et “to deliver more military equipment” to Ukraine. “Military support worked”added the deputy EELV Aurelien Tachepleading for “strengthen this effort”.
” Decision [de Paris] to deliver Caesar guns is excellent”also hailed Jean-Louis Thieriotwhen Valerie Rabault (PS) asked the government to extend “its supply to surface-to-air missiles”. “The delivery of arms is today mainly provided by the United States, Europe must take more of its share, otherwise it will never be a credible actor in terms of geopolitics”argued the Vice-President of the Assembly.
“Our Polish and Baltic allies no longer trust us”et “diplomatic initiatives are now outsourced to Turkey and China”criticized Jerome Buissonwhen his colleague from the RN group Alexis Jolly called for France “finds its specificity” to find his place. On behalf of the Communist Group, Jean Paul Lecoq pleaded for France not to be “no longer this country that sells arms to torturers and belligerents for billions of euros a year”.
On the left, the socialists Boris Vallaud et Valerie Rabault called together to tackle the issue of “companies”including French, which might allow Russia to circumvent the sanctions.
Boris Vallaud announced a PS amendment to the finance bill to “that the dividends and other earnings of companies which in fact support the Russian economy by remaining there be seized and paid to Ukraine”calling on Eutelsat to “stop broadcasting any news channel linked to the Russian authorities”and asking TotalEnergies de “Leave Russia”.
The environmentalist Aurelien Tache also asked “a precise inventory of companies still operating on Russian soil” and of “their level of participation, voluntary or not, in the mobilization decreed by Vladimir Putin”.
MEPs also unanimously condemned Moscow’s declarations of annexation of four regions.
