Sweden believes it has won the battle against inflation

– Now it has been fought, inflation, said Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson on Thursday at the presentation of next year’s state budget. She added that it is important that “we see the light at the end of the tunnel”.

According to the government’s forecasts, inflation is expected to fall from 2.8 per cent on average this year to 0.9 per cent next year.

However, unemployment is not expected to decrease for a couple of years, from 8.3 per cent this year and next and down to 7.9 per cent in 2026, according to the government’s forecasts.

– We are in a time where we are still in a recession, said Svantesson. She added that it is mild, but states that “it will be long”.

The government highlights increased growth as its best tool to end unemployment.

– We want to support households to start growth, both in the short and long term, said Svantesson.

NOK 60 billion has been set aside in next year’s budget for investments that will strengthen people’s purchasing power, restore the line of work and increase growth.

The government predicts significant growth in the economy going forward. Gross national product (GDP) is expected to grow by 2.5 per cent next year and by 3.2 per cent in 2026, according to the forecast. This year, it stops at 0.8 percent.
