Sweden and Indonesia Partner for Sustainable Healthcare Future
Sharing Expertise and Building a Stronger Healthcare System
Team Sweden, a collaborative network of Swedish organizations and companies focused on promoting Swedish innovations globally, is partnering with the Indonesian Ministry of Health to solidify sustainable healthcare practices in Indonesia. The joint initiative, the Sweden-Indonesia Sustainability Partnership (SISP) Healthcare platform, is fostering knowledge-sharing and collaboration in five key areas: cancer care, critical emergencies, diabetes management, maternal and child health, and the advancement of digitalization within the health sector.
The program was launched in early 2023. “Several Swedish companies have expressed their intention to contribute to the Indonesian government’s agenda for sustainable healthcare services next year,” said Daniel Blockert, Swedish Ambassador to Indonesia, Timor-Leste, and ASEAN. He emphasized the shared commitment of Sweden and Indonesia to achieving the sustainable development goals outlined in the UN’s 2030 Agenda.
Kunta Wibawa Dasa Nugraha, Secretary-General of the Indonesian
Health Ministry, expressed optimism for concrete initiatives stemming from these commitments. He highlighted the participation of three Indonesian doctors from Airlangga University (Unair) in the Twinning Doctoral Program at the Karolinska Institute. Their research focuses on improving maternal, neonatal, and child health in Indonesia, contributing significantly to the understanding of critical health needs.
“Through the SISP Program, we perceive a strong collaborative effort that aligns with Indonesia’s national vision and accelerates the president’s priority programs, making significant strides towards sustainable health for all,” Klunta stated.
Kunta highlighted Indonesia’s ongoing Quick-Win programs – free health checkups being one example – as aligning with the goals of SISP.
These programs focus on promoting equitable
access to healthcare and building a resilient healthcare system, even in the face of climate change.
The partnership’s 2025 plan outlines key areas of focus. High-level
dialogues, capacity building measures, doctoral
programs, and the development of anemia
academies within public health programs are just some planned initiatives.
“This collaboration marks a significant step towards achieving our shared vision for a healthier and more sustainable future,” Blockert affirmed. “Team Sweden remains dedicated to
supporting Indonesia in realizing a robust and accessible healthcare system for all.”
