A Swede appeared on Monday before the Brussels Criminal Court for assaulting two police officers at Brussels Airport in December 2022. His lawyer pleads in favor of suspending the sentence.
“Mr had presented himself at the wrong boarding gate and had, therefore, missed his flight,” declared the prosecution. “He made a big fuss regarding it and was asked several times to leave the airport, to no avail.”
When he was transferred to the cell complex, things went completely out of control. The man initially managed to undo his handcuffs and seat belt. Once subdued by the police, he kicked them, punched them, even bit them, causing two officers to be incapacitated for work for two weeks.
Alcohol: the Belgian is one of the heaviest drinkers… in the world and there is nothing to rejoice regarding
The Hal-Vilvoorde public prosecutor’s office requested a four-month prison sentence for these facts. However, the defendant’s lawyer argued in favor of suspending the sentence.
“My client had arrived at the airport much too early and decided to have a drink,” he explained. “I fear he may have underestimated the alcohol content of our local beers, as he drank four Duvels, a glass of wine and a glass of whiskey. He then completely panicked, for which he was ashamed and apologized a day later.”
The defense also emphasized that his client had a clean criminal record.
The judgment is expected on October 12.
