Swat bomb blast, death of a police officer on security of foreign ambassadors

Police in the Swat region of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province said that a police officer assigned to the security of a convoy of about a dozen foreign diplomats was killed and three others were injured in a bomb blast on Sunday.

Speaking to Independent Urdu, Swat Rescue 1122 spokesperson Shafiqa Gul confirmed the death of one policeman and the injuries of three personnel in the incident.

The incident took place within the limits of Malam Jabba Police Station, a popular tourist spot in Swat and frequented by tourists every day.

According to the official, these ambassadors belonged to Indonesia, Portugal, Kazakhstan, Herzegovina, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Turkmenistan, Vietnam, Iran, Bosnia, Russia and Tajikistan.

On this incident, the Foreign Office in Islamabad said in a statement that a group of diplomats who were returning from a visit to Malam Jabba and Swat today witnessed the incident.

According to the statement, an advance scout police vehicle was hit by an IED, resulting in the death of a policeman. The group of diplomats reached Islamabad safely.

“Our sympathies are with the families of the martyred policemen and the three injured in this incident.”
