SV Ried: Marcel Ziegl ends his football career

A real club legend from SV Ried is leaving: Marcel Ziegl, who played his first Bundesliga match for SV Guntamatic Ried on November 29, 2008 at the age of 15, is ending his active career in the summer.

In total, the Upper Austrian and long-time captain played 350 competitive games for Ried’s first team and scored eleven goals. The 31-year-old midfielder was also active in the U17 to U21 Austrian national teams. “Although I am convinced that I might get fit once more, I don’t think I can do it at 100 percent once more. That would be my claim and that is certainly the deciding factor that I will now end my career following this season,” says Marcel Ziegl.

“A special highlight in Ried was definitely my debut in 2008 when I was only 15 years old. Plus the cup victory and the two other cup finals. The absolute highlight was the promotion from the 2nd to the 1st Bundesliga. It was a real roller coaster ride, Corona got in the way, we weakened and still managed it in the end. With SV Guntamatic Ried I found a love for life. Ried has become my family and my home – that has always been something very special for me. I would like to thank everyone responsible, all employees, sponsors and especially the fans. I tried to always do everything at 100 percent. I would like to thank you very much for your great support and trust over this long period of time!” “

“Shows its quality, faithfulness and loyalty”

“When Marcel Ziegl made his debut for SV Guntamatic Ried, some of the players in our current squad were just three years old. This shows the quality, loyalty and loyalty that Marcel Ziegl has to the club and the region around Ried. I would like to express our deep gratitude to Marcel on behalf of SV Ried and his companions at this wonderful club. “SV Guntamatic Ried does not want to do without the services of our long-time captain in the future, which is why we are currently in talks for a major project in the region for which Marcel will be responsible,” emphasizes Managing Director Sport Wolfgang Fiala.
