Suu Kyi’s party disbanded and army; The UN expressed concern World | Deshabhimani

Bangkok The military government in Myanmar has dissolved 40 parties, including the National League for Democracy (NLD) led by Aung San Suu Kyi. The action was taken in the name of non-renewal of registration with the Election Commission. Renewal of registration of parties was allowed till March 28. Unregistered parties will be disbanded under the new electoral law. Other political parties do not accept the junta which does not give them the right to act democratically or to protest. The United Nations has expressed concern over the new developments. UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said that Myanmar’s return to democracy is expected. He also said that the UN would intervene for the release of Aung San Suu Kyi and other detainees. Suu Kyi’s NLD won 80 percent of parliamentary seats in the November 2020 general election.
