IMPROVING the quality of human resources (HR) is very much needed to realize sustainable development and utilization of technology in the development of the national tourism sector.

“The combination of technology utilization and sustainable development patterns is expected to accelerate the tourism development process in the country,” said Deputy Chairperson of the MPR RI, Lestari Moerdijat, in a written statement, Friday (20/9).

The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) noted that the value of tourism foreign exchange had reached US$7.46 billion or equivalent to IDR 113 trillion by July 2024.

This achievement has exceeded the lower limit target set at US$7.38 billion-US$13.08 billion in 2024.

Meanwhile, two weeks ago, Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives approved the definitive budget ceiling of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy for 2025 of Rp1.7 trillion. This amount is lower than the budget ceiling of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy of Rp3.5 trillion in 2024.

According to Lestari, various efforts must be consistently increased in order to continue to open up the potential for foreign exchange inflows from the tourism sector, amidst limited funding allocations.

Strengthening the improvement of the quality of tourism human resources, explained Rerie, Lestari’s nickname, could be one of the strategic steps so that the development of the national tourism sector can achieve the planned targets.

According to Rerie, who is also a member of Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives, efforts to accelerate the growth of the tourism sector through the use of technology in sustainable tourism development require skilled tourism human resources.

In addition, said Rerie, the acceleration of national tourism development really requires a shared vision between the central and regional governments in the country in realizing each development program.

The NasDem Party High Council member emphasized that with strong collaboration from stakeholders, it is hoped that efforts to accelerate the development of the national tourism sector can be realized. (Z-2)
