Sustainable: French company launches electric bicycle that does not use batteries

Have you ever imagined what it would be like to use a electric bicycle that is not powered by batteries? It is exactly this type of product that is being presented by a French brand. Call of Pi-Popit comes from the idea of Adrien Lelievrean entrepreneur who wanted to develop a more sustainable solution.

In this case, the bike does not use lithium batteries but a supercapacitor, which stores electrostatic energy from outside, which is basically the slow-moving charge. The component, in short, has a useful life of up to 15 years, which is longer than the average lithium battery. The company commented on the news:

After 7 years of Research and Development, we are proud to present the world’s first electrically assisted bicycle that only needs you! Pi-POP is equipped with revolutionary technology that stores the energy produced by the user to release it at the right time.

These supercapacitors are made from carbon, conductive polymer, aluminum foil and paper pulp. These materials already have recycling processes. Therefore, almost all bike manufacturing has a greater sustainability footprint, even avoiding lithium extraction processes, which generate environmental impact.

As the bike charges while riding on flat, easy-to-ride terrain, it only releases energy when it is really needed. Not only that, but it handles better on steep slopes, as well as having smoother pedaling.
