Sustainability and welfare in the integration of the Hitachi group

A performance bonus also linked to the achievement of sustainability objectives, which from the current approximately 4 thousand euros, in four years, from 2024 to 2027, will be equal to 5 thousand euros, in addition to the expansion of corporate welfare and smart working. These are the salient points of the agreement which the Hitachi Rail group promoted and signed yesterday in Naples with the trade union organizations Fiom, Fim and Uilm. The company supplementary contract involves 4,400 employees from six Hitachi Rail Italian production sites, of which approximately 1,900 at the Naples site, where the company has its headquarters.

More attention to quality of life

A contract that marks a turning point compared to the past, as it is inspired above all by the desire to improve the quality of life of the group’s workers with benefits and flexibility. «After a long gestation, our proposal found the agreement of the unions – says Luca D’Aquila, CEO of Hitachi Rail Italia and COO of Hitachi Rail Group – it is based on non-quantitative but qualitative concepts consistent with the current historical moment ». The negotiation started in June 2023.

The first point concerns the Award which is strengthened and anchored to specific performances in terms of sustainability, safety and productivity. 750 euros and a 15% company contribution have been added to the current figure which will be converted into welfare. In total 5 thousand euros divided over four years.

Enhance the skills to be transferred

The second point of the agreement concerns the economic valorisation of manufacturing experiences and professionalism, with particular reference to workers, through the launch of the “MKT – Manufacturing, Knowledge & Transfer” project. The project aims to ensure – also through digital tools – the capitalization and sharing of knowledge and experience, encouraging the inclusion of new resources, transfer of skills and training. In short, employees with a minimum seniority of 15 years are asked to be willing to transfer skills and manage transition phases, in exchange for a revaluation of the minimum salary.

Long term and smart working policy

The agreement also includes among the welfare measures a “Long term care” insurance policy which, in the event of loss of self-sufficiency, guarantees economic support both through an initial “one-off” payment and with a monthly lifetime annuity. There are also “welfare Foryou”, with self-training objectives, and the Solidarity Hour Bank which allows all employees to donate their vacation hours to colleagues experiencing particular situations of need. As for smart working, a quarterly schedule is adopted. Some of the measures of the Hitachi supplement are thought to also be introduced into the national contract
