The presence of a suspicious object in a wooded area bordering L’Équinoxe school, in Sainte-Rose, forced the Laval Police Service (SPL) to evacuate staff and students, the time to intervene effectively to neutralize the situation. .

The incident took place on the followingnoon of Monday, April 24.

It was 2:50 p.m. when a walker called 911.

Patrol officers immediately headed for L’Équinoxe elementary school and the adjacent wooded area.

Intervention et explosion

Initially, it was decided to evacuate the school as a precaution because of the unknown nature of the package in question.

Subsequently, the police erected a perimeter in order to secure as much as possible the scene concentrated in this sector of the boulevard de la Renaissance.

The agents ended up spotting said unidentified object, before detonating it as a preventive measure.

Residents of the area were thus able to hear several detonations in the early evening, shortly following 7 p.m.

Back to normal

It should be noted that, of course, classes were able to resume normally on the morning of Tuesday, April 25, as the school management communicated to the parents of the students the previous evening.

“Even if this situation is isolated, that it is in no way associated with the school and that it did not take place on our land, we found it important to inform you of the situation”, specified the management of L ‘Equinoxe in its communication to parents.

On the side of the SPL, we confirm that we still do not know what the package contained and that it had been neutralized to avoid any unnecessary risk for the school and the surrounding population.
