Suspicion for a case of botulism: Anmat warned about the products of a brand that manufactures cheese and peanut paste

The Anmat today recommended to the population “to refrain from consuming” all “Full” products and urge cease marketing following a suspected case of botulism that would be associated with that brand, it was officially reported.

The General Directorate of Control of the Food Industry, belonging to the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Mining of the Government of Córdoba, “are working on the investigation of a suspected case of botulism that would be associated with the consumption of a product of the ‘A Pleno’ brand, made in the town of Villa de las Rosas”.

The brand, also investigated by the municipalities of Villa de las Rosas and Villa Dolores, sells sunflower cheese and peanut paste, among other products.

The agency stated that “in order to protect the health of consumers, the population is recommended, as a preventive measure, to refrain from consuming all ‘A Pleno’ brand products.”

He ordered that “If you have done so and present any of the initial symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, blurred vision, double vision, dry mouth, difficulty speaking and swallowing, consult a doctor immediately”.

“Likewise, those who have in their possession the products for sale, cease their commercialization,” he stressed.

The Classic or food botulism is a serious poisoning caused by the ingestion of the preformed toxin in contaminated food. and you cannot see, smell or taste the botulinum toxin, Anmat said.

The incidence of botulism is low, but the mortality rate is high if early diagnosis is not made and the corresponding antitoxin is administered early.

Botulism is not spread from person to person.

The National Administration of Medicines, Food and Medical Technology (Anmat) recommended avoiding the consumption of preserves if its origin is unknown or if they are not authorized by the competent health authority.

Select always preserves that have been manufactured by processors authorized by the competent health authority, reject containers that are swollen or dented, and transport and store preserves in cool, well-ventilated places

Also, keep the product protected from direct heat, humidity and contamination, and do not consume packaged preserves that release gas when opened.
