Suspended since last October following a positive test noted during the US Open 2022, the Romanian Simona Halep accumulates the hard knocks.
The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) has indeed announced that the Romanian is now charged with a violation of the Tennis Anti-Doping Program (TADP). Irregularities, without further details, were found in his biological passport (ABP).
“Contamination”
“We understand that today’s announcement adds complexity to an already high-profile situation. From the beginning of this process – and indeed any other at ITIA – we have remained committed to engaging with Ms. Halep in an empathetic, effective and timely manner. Of course, we appreciate that there is great media interest in these cases. It would be inappropriate for us to comment on specifics until the process is complete, but we will continue to engage with Sport Resolutions’ independent tribunal and Ms. Halep’s representatives as quickly as possible.”commented Nicole Sapstead, senior director of anti-doping at the ITIA, in a press release published this Friday evening.
This accusation is therefore in addition to that linked to the use of Roxadustat, a prohibited substance, which had led the former world number one to a provisional suspension for which she has still not been heard.
Halep once said “never to have consumed, in conscience, the slightest prohibited product”further explaining that the traces of Roxadustat found in his body “were the result of contamination. A contamination of one of my food supplements, which explains the very low quantity that was detected”.
Temporarily suspended for doping, Simona Halep finds the time long: “I want to be judged, I have been waiting for six months”
